What’s a picture really worth? What’s the price for a moment of wonder, excitement, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be just... that... close to a wild animal? I have written these words before about the concept of having an exotic animal as a pet—a chimpanzee, a macaque, a tiger, or any number of others. I understand it. I understand the profound and emotional yearning to be close to a wild animal. To touch a wild animal. To embrace the companionship of a wild animal. It’s got to be magical and exciting.

What are the World's Deadliest Animals?
What would you say is the world's most dangerous animal? A shark? A tiger? What about a crocodile? An Australian man was killed by a crocodile this week; his friend escaped with his life after a three-hour ordeal. Crocodiles are dangerous enough, they kill an estimated 1,000 per year. But the world's deadliest animal, year after year, is a much smaller creature: the mosquito. Here are some of the world's deadliest animals.

The Original LOL Cats
Think our fascination with quirky pictures of cats began with the Internet? In their new book, “The Photographed Cat: Picturing Human-Feline Ties, 1890-1940” (Syracuse University Press), authors Arnold Arluke and Lauren Rolfe show how we’ve been embarrassing our furry friends since the birth of photography. Here, Tiger, the mascot of a VFW post in Long Beach, Calif., poses after World War I.

College Football: The Key To Success Is To Be An Animal
Whether you growl, chomp, bark or roar, college football has always been won by the animals. A football head coach ultimately wants his players to play like animals on the gridiron. But that metaphor is only half the story. The key to winning is not playing like an animal, it's the animal you're playing for. Animals have taken over college football (figuratively of course, actual animals haven't taken over, but the animal mascots have). The last seven national champions have been animals (Elephant, Tiger, Gator and Longhorn). Actually, the last "human" to win a national championship was in 2004 with the USC Trojans' victory.

Endangered Species Which Need Our Help In 2012
Across the globe, hundreds of animal species face a grave and increasing threat of extinction. While many of these animals may live in remote locations, the spread of human populations and commercial activities poses a tremendous threat. The is a list from the World Wildlife Fund of 10 endangered species that received attention from the group in 2010. Some, like the Irrawaddy dolphin, mountain gorilla and Vaquita have global populations that number in the hundreds. Another animal on the list, the Javan rhino, has a population of around only 40 animals.
