Shark Photobombs Family Photo

Can there be such thing as a shark photobomb?  That’s what many are calling an eerie and eye-catching photo inadvertently snapped by a California mother that appears to show a large shark, or maybe a dolphin, swimming near her two children.  "It was quite a shock to see” the photo, June Emerson told KTLA about her photo, which captured the outline of a large fish swimming underneath a breaking wave close to the shore on Manhattan Beach.

California Great White Sharks Get Protections For Now

The most feared predator in the ocean received new protections today when a California commission decided the great white shark should be studied as a potential endangered species. The Fish and Game Commission unanimously voted to advance the candidacy of the shark, which means during a one-year study review it will receive the same protections it would if it were listed as endangered.

Video: Great White Shark Circles Fishing Boat Off Oahu, Hawaii

Cue the theme from "Jaws" -- a massive shark was spotted by a pair of fishermen off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii. Addison Toki caught on camera his encounter with what he believes was a 15-foot great whiteshark. According to KITV4 News, Toki and his friend Dominick Gaballo were fishing about five miles off Yokohama Bay on the west side of Oahu on January 12, when they spotted one of the ocean's largest predatory fish.

California Shark Fin Ban Signed Into Law

Shark fin soup will disappear from the Golden State's menu in January 2013 under legislation signed into law on Friday by California Governor Jerry Brown. Strongly supported by environmentalists, the bill bans the sale, purchase or possession of the ocean-going predator's fins. But restaurants can continue to serve any existing stock of shark fin until 2013.
