Video: Baby Elephant Named Anchali Welcomed At Berlin Zoo
The Berlin Zoo is celebrating the arrival of an elephant calf named Anchali, which means "greeting" in Thai. The 350-pound calf made her public debut on Wednesday, much to the delight of the big crowds who turned out to see her. Zoo staff members are doing everything they can to protect Anchali from a common elephant virus that has already led to the deaths of three elephant calves at the same zoo.

Rare White Rhino Born In Israeli Zoo
A rare white rhinoceros has been born in a zoo in Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv, a zoo official told AFP on Saturday. "This baby rhino, a male, was born early on Friday afternoon without any problems," said Netta Guetta, who heads the African animals department, adding that the newcomer has yet to be named. "This is an extremely rare event in captivity, and it's touching. Immediately after giving birth, the mother tenderly licked her calf and began to breast-feed," she said. The 20-year-old mother, named Tanda, weighs two tonnes and comes from South Africa.

Baby Warthogs Born At Zoo Miami
Just as the Arsht Center hosts Pumbaa, the singing warthog in Broadway hit "The Lion King," Zoo Miami welcomes four new warthogs piglets. But that's not the first connection the local zoo's had to the Disney production. The film's animators visited Zoo Miami back in 1993 (when it was still called Miami Metro Zoo) and studied the resident animals as models for some of the characters in the film.
