Will Burrard-Lucas likes to photograph unsuspecting African animals with strategically placed camera traps. For his latest project, the wildlife photographer sought to capture images of nocturnal animals as they conduct their affairs at night, and the results are spectacular. Burrard-Lucas, with the help of African Parks and Norman Carr Safaris, recently undertook two expeditions to Liuwa Plain, a remote national park in the west of Zambia. His goal was to capture striking images of animals in low-light conditions, which can be a formidable and technically challenging task.

Orphaned Hippo Says Good Bye to Unlikely Friends
Two-week old Douglas was in bad shape when he arrived at the Chipembele Wildlife Education Centre in Mfuwe, Zambia. More than a year later, thanks to his two canine companions, he’s ready to go back to the wild. Rescuers found the abandoned baby hippo near the Zambezi River in May 2013. He was then helicoptered to the center, where he was nursed back to health.

Hipster Chimpanzees Sticking Grass in Their Ears
When one chimpanzee starts putting a blade of grass in her ear, it's an oddity. When a whole bunch of them copy the behavior, it's enough to make scientists go "hmm." The behavior in question first turned up at Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage, in Zambia. In 2010, a rescued chimpanzee named Julie started walking around with a long-stemmed blade of grass sticking out of her ear. Over the next year, seven more chimpanzees in Julie's 12-member group began mimicking the behavior.
