Celebrities Help Save the World's Last Male Northern White Rhino

One of the world’s most critically endangered animals is about to get a little star-studded support.  Over the next few months, as many as 18 celebrities from around the world will travel to Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where they will have the opportunity to meet one of the planet’s rarest animals: Sudan, the last male northern white rhino.  Only five northern white rhinos remain alive, and Sudan is 42. Three of them live at Ol Pejeta. Two other elderly females live at zoos in San Diego and the Czech Republic. None of the animals is capable of breeding naturally. Ol Pejeta is exploring artificial means of reproduction to preserve the species.

World's Oldest Cat Celebrates 27th Birthday

Tiffany Two, who holds the Guinness World Record for oldest living cat, reached the ripe old age of 27 on Friday.  The short-haired tortoiseshell feline was born on March 13, 1988 in San Diego, California. Owner Sharon Voorhees adopted her when she was six weeks old for just $10, and has been caring for the record-breaking cat ever since.

Canines Team Up To Help Veteran Overcome Depression

When this big rescue dog joined a new home, she probably didn't expect to find afurever friend in a pooch half her size.  Douglas Pittsley, 27, of San Diego, served in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years and was deployed a few times over the course of his military career. In 2010, Pittsley, who dealt with anger and depression after his deployments, adopted a large German shepherd mix whom he named Dixie to help him with his stress.

Video: Kasatka, SeaWorld Killer Whale, Gives Birth Underwater In Amazing Video

One of SeaWorld's killer whales gave birth this Valentine's Day, and the natural amazing, natural moment was caught on camera in San Diego. Kasatka the orca, gave birth to her fourth calf at 6:33 a.m. on Feb. 14, according to SeaWorld's blog. Trainers, vets and animal-care specialists were at the scene. The new calf marks the sixth successful killer whale birth at the San Diego park.

Family Reunited With Rare Cat

A Chicago family that lost their rare cat while vacationing in San Diego, Calif., has been found and returned to the family. The Foscos said a family from the La Jolla section of San Diego found their cat, Ivy, on July 29, about three miles from where it was first reported missing, according to ABC News affiliate KGTV. The Foscos says the cat's microchip led him to being properly identified. Ivy went missing July 17 when the Foscos were visiting the San Diego area. In a hurry to find their cat, they offered a $5,000 reward and hired a bloodhound team from Los Angeles to sniff out the cat.

Video: Hounds Hang Ten In San Diego

Canines, owners, and dog-lovers alike hit up the coastal city of San Diego this past Saturday for some healthy competition at the seventh annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition. Dogs competed amongst other dogs within their size category and were judged based on their skills and confidence out in the surf.
