Three Animals Have Died at SeaWorld San Antonio

Dart was a Pacific white sided dolphin, the kind that’s known for zipping through the water near the bows of ships and performing ocean acrobatics, one of the most active and playful species of an already active and playful animal.  But for the past month, the 12-year-old SeaWorld San Antonio show animal had been ailing. And this weekend, he died, the park said.  Dart was the third mammal to die at the Texas SeaWorld branch in as many months, his death coming fast on the heels of those of Unna, an orca, and Stella, a beluga whale.

Dog Swims 1.5 Miles To Reunite After Home Sinks

A Sausalito man whose home on the water sank during last week’s brutal storm was reunited with his dog that somehow survived the sinking, and swam to shore.  Steve Alioto had everything he loved on the boat in Sausalito, anchored out because he couldn’t afford a dock.  He returned to the boat after helping a friend during Thursday’s storm to find his home had sunk.  "All I saw was the mast sticking out of the water,” Alioto said.

Elephants Know When It's Raining 150 Miles Away

Maybe the Weather Channel should start hiring elephants. A study in PLoS ONE suggests the creatures can detect rainstorms happening 150 miles away, possibly by hearing them even from that far off.  Migrating elephants are known to change direction out of the blue, and researchers haven't been certain why. The Namibian research team figured it might be because of rain—as Phys.org explains, elephants are regularly looking for water in the region, which is dry outside of the January-to-March rainy season.

Video: Australian Dolphin Prefers to Play With Humans

A playful dolphin in Australia that appears to prefer human company to other dolphins has surprised wildlife experts after frolicking with swimmers and surfers at some of Sydney’s most popular beaches. The two-year-old female bottlenose dolphin has approached people in the water and spent hours playing with them, even if they showed little interest. It has allowed people to touch it and popped up around surfers, sometimes grabbing their leg ropes or jumping over their boards.
