Rhino Survives Horrific Attack By Poachers

A couple of days later, staff on a wildlife reserve found the grievously injured rhino — alive.

Bottlenose Dolphin Adopts Baby Orphan of a Different Species

Dolphin watchers discovered a rare occurrence recently off the New Zealand coast: A bottlenose dolphin adopted an abandoned common dolphin pup.  According to The New Zealand Herald, Kiwi made headlines five years ago when she lost her own baby, named Squirt, after getting stranded in a muddy inlet. Rescuers were able to return the mother to the ocean, but Squirt, which was nowhere to be found, was believed to have been eaten by an orca during the separation.

Tangled Whale Freed Off NJ Coast

When rescuers sailed to a spot off the New Jersey shore, they found a young humpback whale, bobbing near the surface but unable to move much.  Although it was able to break the water’s surface and breathe, “the whale was likely anchored to that spot, much like a dog tied to a leash,” said Scott Landry, head of an agency that rescues entangled marine animals.
