The pair have been furm friends for five years, ever since Lily lost her eyes to an incurable condition which caused her eyelashes to grow into her eyeballs.

German Zoo Powered By Elephant Poo
Elephants are actually helping to keep the lights on at the Munich Zoo. The zoo's resident Indian elephants are providing 'Elephant Energy' by creating power generated from their dung. This is achieved by harnessing what the Munich Zoo is referring to as "poo power" -- energy stored in animal waste -- which can be converted into a fuel known as "biogas."

California Shark Fin Ban Signed Into Law
Shark fin soup will disappear from the Golden State's menu in January 2013 under legislation signed into law on Friday by California Governor Jerry Brown. Strongly supported by environmentalists, the bill bans the sale, purchase or possession of the ocean-going predator's fins. But restaurants can continue to serve any existing stock of shark fin until 2013.

Charlie Bird, a nature photographer, traveled to Antarctica to take in the wonders of the cold continent. On his travels he met a pair of enormous baby elephant seals that wanted to cuddle. After watching this video, I am glad to see than the seals ultimately chose to roll off of him after they were done cuddling!

West Hollywood Set to Ban the Sale of Fur
Taking a stand for animal rights over fashion, the tiny, tony municipality of West Hollywood is poised to become the first U.S. city to ban the sale of fur clothing within its boundaries. The five-member City Council voted unanimously on September 20 to give tentative approval to the ban, and the panel is expected to officially adopt the measure at a meeting next Monday.

Senior Dog Rules at Annual Surf Dog Contest
More than 4,000 spectators came to see the 80 surfing pooches hang-ten this last weekend at the annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon held at Del Mar Dog Beach in Southern California. Benefitting the Helen Woodward Animal Center, the event raised more than $100,000 for orphaned animals and animal welfare programs at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
